Firefighters from various departments were working tirelessly on Tuesday night to extinguish a fire at the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe, which is located on the site of Nikola Tesla’s final laboratory in Shoreham. The fire was reported by Suffolk police at 4:49 p.m. near the intersection of Tesla and Robinson streets.
Dozens of firefighters from multiple departments were dispatched to the scene an hour later, where they continue to battle the blaze that is still raging in the northeast portion of the main building on the site, just below Tesla Peak. Flames are still leaping out of the building as firefighters work to contain the spread of the fire and ensure everyone’s safety.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Grant Parpan covers Suffolk County courts and federal courts for Newsday, and he joined Newsday in 2022.
