The International Ski Federation (FIS) recently announced the provisional schedule for the 2024-25 Alpine World Cup season. The season-ending World Cup Finals are set to take place in Sun Valley, Idaho from March 22-27. Sun Valley, which last hosted World Cup ski racing in 1977, will see the return of men’s and women’s races in downhill, super-G, giant slalom, and slalom.
Sun Valley has previously hosted women’s giant slaloms and slaloms in 1975 and 1977. However, the venue has been marked with (TBC) by FIS, indicating that it is not yet confirmed for the event. The U.S. last hosted the World Cup Finals in 2017 in Aspen, Colorado, and this will be a much-anticipated return for American ski racing fans.
The provisional calendar for next season also includes the first women’s races in Beaver Creek, Colorado since 2013. Beaver Creek has traditionally been an annual stop for men’s events in early December and this year will host a men’s downhill, super-G, and GS from Dec. 6-8 as well as a women’s downhill and super-G from Dec. 14-15.
FIS has also announced two new safety measures for athletes in the upcoming season. Skiers will be required to wear air bags in downhill and super-G races starting next season for injury protection
