Sarah Spivey, a meteorologist at KSAT, will be conducting a live science demonstration every Wednesday morning. On Wednesday, students at Thousand Oaks Elementary had the chance to participate in an exciting experiment involving balloon hovercrafts.
Materials needed for the experiment include a hot glue gun, an old CD or DVD, a large balloon, and a pop-top cap. To conduct the experiment, follow these simple steps: first, decorate your CD or DVD if you’d like. Then use the hot glue to attach the closed pop-top to the middle of the disc. Next, blow up your balloon and twist it (do not tie it) to temporarily keep the air inside. Finally, put the balloon over the pop top and watch as it floats on a table!
If you’re interested in having Sarah and David come to your school for a live science demonstration on KSAT, fill out this form. Winners are selected at random by KSAT – all rights reserved.
