Seb Coe, the president of World Athletics, was shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of Kelvin Kiptum and his coach, Gervais Hakizimana. Kiptum, who was just 24 years old, held the world marathon record and had broken the course record for the London Marathon last year.

Gideon Kimaiyo, a Kenyan member of parliament, confirmed the deaths in a statement. He described Kiptum as a legend and expressed deep sorrow over the loss, offering condolences to the families affected.

Kiptum’s death comes at a time when he was at the prime of his career, having secured significant victories and accomplishments. World Athletics president Seb Coe expressed his deepest condolences and recognized Kiptum’s incredible legacy, stating that he will be missed dearly.
