The United States has allocated an additional four million dollars in support for food and emergency shelter for approximately 70,000 people displaced from Nagorno Karabakh. Samantha Power, head of the US Agency for International Development, announced that Washington remains committed to the ethnic Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh. She stated that Azerbaijan’s military operation in the region forced more than 100,000 people to leave their homes and seek refuge in neighboring Armenia. The US government also thanked the Armenian government for their generosity in accepting the displaced population.
According to Power, since 2020, the United States has already allocated 28 million dollars in aid to the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh. During her recent visit to Armenia, she personally heard from many displaced individuals about the immense difficulties and grief they experienced as a result of being forced to flee their homes. She reaffirmed that the US government will continue to work closely with both the displaced and their gracious hosts in Armenia to provide them with much-needed assistance.
