Newly elected President Javier Milei of Argentina is a supporter of the Ukrainian cause, providing hope for the government of President Volodymyr Zelensky. Diplomatic advisor Igor Zhovkva expressed confidence that relations between Ukraine and Argentina will strengthen, citing a message from Zelensky congratulating Milei on his victory and thanking him for supporting Ukraine.

Zhovkva also noted that any international leader who supports Ukraine is welcome to visit, and reiterated Zelensky’s willingness to visit Latin America if invited. The advisor encouraged Milei to join other leaders in supporting the Ukrainian Peace Formula, which aims to restore peace. There is a possibility that Argentina may host a summit between Ukraine and Latin American countries with Milei as president.

Milei has previously shown support for Ukraine and condemnation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two countries have potential for bilateral relations, particularly in the agricultural sector. Earlier this year, Ukraine made it a priority to gain support in Latin America, but has not yet received a positive response from Latin American leaders. Milei’s pro-Ukraine stance and criticism of Putin make him an important ally for Zelensky’s government.
