Unprecedented Trend at the 2023 NFL Draft: Parental Representation Takes Center Stage

This year, the NFL Draft saw a new trend in representation, as parental representation was on full display. Notably, CAA Sports’ success in securing 12 first-round picks, surpassing their own previous record set in 2018, marked the end of Athletes First’s four-year reign at the top of the industry.

One of CAA’s biggest wins came with North Carolina QB Drake Maye going to the Patriots with the third overall pick. Meanwhile, USC QB Caleb Williams was represented by his father, Carl Williams, adding another example of familial representation among top prospects. Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr., son of Football HOFer Marvin Harrison, was also selected in the top five.

While CAA Sports dominated the draft this year with their 12 first-round picks and five players represented by Patrick Collins alone, they were not alone in their success. WME Sports and Athletes First each had four first-round picks apiece, while Excel Football and Wasserman had two each. In addition to CAA’s dominance, there were 11 agencies involved in the first round overall.

The draft showcased a diverse range of schools as well, with LSU, Alabama, and Washington each having three picks in the first round. The top three spots went to QBs: USC’s Caleb Williams at number one overall; LSU’s Jayden Daniels at number two; and North Carolina’s Drake Maye at number three. These selections added excitement to the draft and highlighted a new wave of talent entering the NFL.

Overall, this year’s NFL Draft saw a shift towards greater diversity both within agencies and schools represented. While there were many notable players selected throughout all rounds of the draft by various agencies and teams alike. It is clear that talent knows no bounds when it comes to finding representation that best suits their needs for success on both sides of
