UVM women’s lacrosse player Ava Vasile made history by becoming the new all-time scoring leader, surpassing the previous record of 255 set by Sydney Mas. The Cats ended a four-game losing streak by defeating LeMoyne 17-4 at Virtue Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Vasile tied the record with two goals in the first quarter and broke it with a third goal before adding two more goals later in the game, reaching a new total of 259 goals and counting. She expressed her disbelief and happiness at achieving this milestone, noting that she had dreamt about it as a freshman and was thrilled to see it come true.
Head coach Sarah Dalton Graddock commended Vasile for her hard work over her five-year career at UVM, highlighting the significance of breaking a record that had stood for nine years. Vasile now has her sights set on breaking Mas’s all-time goals record of 211, needing seven goals to tie or eight goals to surpass it with two games remaining in the season.
Overall, Vasile’s achievement is a testament to her dedication and skill as a player, and her record-breaking performance has solidified her place in UVM women’s lacrosse history.
