Lebanon’s Science Olympiad accomplishment was a group work
As the coach of the Lebanon Higher College Science Olympiad group, I would like to express my thanks and gratitude, on behalf of our students, to the stakeholders in our neighborhood who have been so essential to our accomplishment. The Byrne Foundation, Bio X Cell, Geokon, Mascoma Bank and Ulysses Diversified Holdings have every single contributed to our teams at several points all through the final eight years.
This year, Lebanon Higher College took very first and second spot in the state championships held in April at Saint Anselm College and was in a position to send a group of 15 higher college students from Lebanon, Grantham and Plainfield to the national championships in Wichita, Kan., thanks to the help of our sponsors. Representing our neighborhood and the state of New Hampshire at this national competitors is an impressive achievement for our students and our college district — one particular that will inspire generations of Lebanon students to come.
At a current neighborhood gathering, I had a likelihood to catch up with some alumni from our plan. Lots of of them have completed their undergraduate function and are functioning in industries or graduate applications associated to science, medicine or engineering fields. They all agreed that Science Olympiad was one particular of the most formative, rewarding and memorable experiences they had as young students. Our community’s help of Science Olympiad has led to it becoming a wealthy tradition, which impacts an ever-developing quantity of young folks.

Hartford missing out on income for housing
The Hartford Selectboard is potentially missing out on millions of dollars in grants and low-interest loans (state and federal) to invest in housing: Northern Border Regional Commission and “10% in Vermont.”
I’ve worked challenging to amend this scenario privately, but there’s a vacuum of Selectboard leadership. This is amounting to a big expense to Hartford enterprises and citizens alike.
Possibly my head will roll (once more) for speaking on this publicly — I accept that — but I think you deserve transparency. The Selectboard has a duty to take benefit of just about every constructive chance to boost investment and housing improvement in Hartford. Our complacency may perhaps outcome in millions of dollars in possibilities potentially slipping by, and for what?
The Selectboard exists to serve the folks.

Hands off my Medicare and Social Safety
I just do not realize it. The government, which can not look to spend its bills, primarily from overspending, is prepared to default on it is obligations.
We hear that Social Safety and Medicare will be impacted. These ought to be untouchable. Each and every of these are not an entitlement plan! I paid into Social Safety for 50 years and spend a premium (every single month) for my Medicare coverage (not to mention what I paid in more than my functioning life).
Our government, for a extended time, managed to commit a lot more than what it is taking in. It is time for the government to take a challenging appear at exactly where it can curb spending. If it was a company, it would be closed.
Social Safety, which we paid into for all these years, is not a money cow for our elected leaders to draw from anytime they require “extra” funds. They have carried out this for as well extended a time, which I presume, they had no intention of paying back (even soon after writing “IOU’S”).
