Washington Township Middle School Academic Teams made history at the Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division competition by winning several awards. The Science Team, led by Addison Peres (captain), Jacob Barker, and Kirk VarnHagen, was named the 2024 Class 4 Science State Champions after answering 22 out of 25 questions correctly. This victory marked the school’s tenth Science State championship and fourth consecutive win in state history.
In addition to the Science Team, the English and Social Studies Teams also earned recognition. The English Team, led by Stephen Cannon (captain), Karson Kish, and Liam Swiatkowski, was named Class 4 English Runner-Up after answering 22 out of 25 questions correctly. The Social Studies Team, consisting of Addison Peres (captain), McKenna Bouchee, and Karson Kish, earned the title of Class Social Studies Runner-Up with 18 out of 25 questions answered correctly.
Overall, Washington Township Middle School’s Academic Teams have amassed a total of 24 Academic State Championships in 19 years of competition, making it the most successful middle school in Porter County and the state as a whole. For the 19th year in a row, Washington Township was honored as an Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division Class 4 Top Ten school. This year’s academic competitions were centered around the theme “The End of the Second Millennium: The 1980s and 1990s.”
