WhatsApp and Instagram Outage Affects Millions of Users Worldwide

WhatsApp Restores Service Following Global Outages – DW – 04/04/2024

On Wednesday, Meta Platforms-owned messaging service WhatsApp reported issues that affected tens of thousands of users worldwide. According to tracking website Downdetector.com, the outage lasted for over three hours before WhatsApp announced that they were back up and running.

During the outage, over 24,000 users in the United States were impacted. In India, nearly 46,000 users reported problems, with around 82,000 users in the United Kingdom and over 88,000 users in Brazil also experiencing issues. Additionally, more than 5,000 Instagram outages were recorded during the same time period.

This is not the first time that Meta Platforms-owned apps have experienced outages. Last month, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads suffered disruptions, affecting hundreds of thousands of users. Meta Platforms reported that during the fourth quarter of 2023, almost 4 billion people were using at least one of their core products each month, including Facebook
