On Monday morning, aeronautical unions will hold “information assemblies” at both the metropolitan Aeroparque and Ezeiza, which is expected to disrupt flights scheduled between 8 and 11 in the morning. The unions are protesting for the approval of the Bases Law project, which includes reducing the non-taxable minimum, potentially causing a return to paying Income Tax for many aeronautical employees.
The DNU 70 decision included privatization of Aerolíneas Argentinas and the repeal of subsidies that the State provided. Since before taking office, the Milei government’s policies have been opposed by aeronautical unions, particularly regarding privatization of Aerolíneas Argentinas.
The Airline Pilots Association (APLA), Association of Aeronautical Technicians (APTA), Senior Staff Union (UPSA), and Aeronautical Personnel Association (APA) are among the unions involved in the protest. They aim to defend the rights of aeronautical employees and push back against government policies.
Aerolíneas Argentinas’ flight schedules are running smoothly to avoid cancellations. Low-cost airlines like Flybondi do not anticipate cancellations, but JetSmart may experience affected flights due to ramp services provided by Intercargo. The protests on Monday are expected to be the first of two in the same week, with a general strike planned for Thursday. Additional actions are also planned in front of the National Congress beyond this week.
Foreign airlines landing in Ezeiza have not yet announced any disruptions due to the protests. The unions are calling for ongoing action to defend their rights and push back against government policies that threaten their livelihoods.
