Amateur golfer Kris Kim, 16, impresses golf world by making cut in PGA Tour debut

Kris Kim, a 16-year-old amateur golfer, made history during his debut on the PGA Tour by becoming the youngest player to make the cut in nine years. He also set a record as the youngest player to make the cut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, surpassing a record previously held by Jordan Spieth in 2010.

Kim impressed with a three-under-68 first round and a four-under-67 second round at the tournament in McKinney, Texas, showing remarkable composure for his age. Despite admitting to feeling nervous on the 18th hole, Kim managed to sink a birdie putt to secure his place in the next round.

Kim credited his mother, Ji-Hyun Suh, a former professional golfer, for introducing him to the sport at a young age. Kim has had a successful amateur career, winning various championships in the past year before making his debut on the PGA Tour. Currently, he sits in a tie for 36th place, trailing the overnight leader, Jake Knapp. Other notable players in the tournament include Matt Wallace and Troy Merritt, who are tied for second place. Unfortunately, Jordan Spieth failed to make the cut due to a wrist injury. Kim is scheduled to tee off for the third round on Saturday morning while Knapp and Merritt will tee off in the afternoon.
