On April 30, 2021, Long Khanh Regional General Hospital received 209 patients suspected of suffering from food poisoning after consuming bread. One serious case had to be transferred to a higher hospital for further treatment. Of the admitted patients, 160 received treatment, 5 underwent examinations and were sent home, and 43 mild cases were immediately discharged.
The symptoms exhibited by all patients included vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain after eating meat sandwiches purchased from a local business in Xuan Binh ward, Long Khanh between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on April 30th. Doctors diagnosed them with intestinal infections and suspected food poisoning. Fortunately, most of the patients are now in stable condition.
The Food Safety and Hygiene Department of Dong Nai province will collaborate with the Medical Center and relevant agencies in Long Khanh City to investigate the cause of the incident. The Department of Health has instructed Long Khanh Regional General Hospital to provide the best treatment conditions for the patients. The bakery that sold the bread has been operating for over ten years but is currently suspended from business due to a lack of food safety and hygiene certification.
Long Khanh City’s Chairman visited the patients at the hospital to ensure their well-being. It is crucial to determine the source of this outbreak so that future incidents can be prevented and community safety can be ensured.
