The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking applicants for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychological Science with a focus on African-centered or Black Psychology. This is a one-year position that will start in August 2024. Ideal candidates will have a PhD in Psychological Science and incorporate African-centered or Black Psychology into their teaching, research, and service. They should also have experience working with African American or African diasporic communities using a community-based participatory approach. Candidates with a PhD or advanced ABD, as well as teaching experience at the university level, will receive preference.
Applicants whose research covers areas such as culture, mental health disparities education, positive youth development, family science, racial identity, racial stress and trauma, diversity science, and intergroup relations are encouraged to apply. Candidates should also have experience with multi-disciplinary, interdisciplinary, or collaborative research and be committed to creating student-centered and active learning environments. The position will be located in the Africana Studies Department and may include the possibility of teaching cross-listed courses with the Psychology Department and School of Social Work. Successful candidates will teach five courses per academic year, including one or two introductory courses each semester.
