Oswald Peraza, a talented infielder who has been sidelined from game action for the past eight weeks, is set to make his return to the field. The Tampa Tarpons, the Yankees’ Single-A affiliate, announced that Peraza will begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday during a doubleheader against Clearwater.
Peraza initially experienced discomfort in his right shoulder during spring training, leading to a subscapular strain and his shutdown. Manager Aaron Boone had originally stated that Peraza would need six to eight weeks of rest, and the eight-week mark has now passed. However, despite Peraza’s imminent return, Boone stated that the infielder still has a significant amount of time before being activated. According to Boone, Peraza will need to go through a full spring training of games to prepare, which means he will likely have a few more weeks of rehab ahead of him.
Peraza began throwing again in early April and has played in 70 games for the Yankees over the past two seasons, posting a batting line of .216/.298/.306 with three home runs, 11 doubles, 16 RBI, and 23 runs scored. With his impressive performance on the field and his determination to recover from injury, Peraza is poised to make a significant impact when he returns to play for the Tarpons.
