The University of Houston has chosen to go against the NFL and the Tennessee Titans by using an alternate Columbia Blue color scheme, despite being advised against it last year. Athletic director Chris Pezman announced that the school has made a final decision to proceed with the alternate color scheme after thoroughly reviewing all aspects of the situation.
Houston has notified the NFL of their plans to use the alternate color scheme, but as of now, there has been no response from the league. Pezman stated that they are giving the NFL a few weeks to respond before moving forward with their plans. The university is confident in their decision and believes they have a solid justification behind it.
Pezman explained that there is evidence showing that the city uses the alternate color scheme, making their decision justified. Additionally, Houston’s proximity to the Texans, who recently introduced a uniform with a similar color, also supports their case. It is unlikely that anyone would have intellectual property rights over a color, and it would not reflect well on the NFL if they were to take legal action against the University of Houston over this matter.
