Dilawar Syed, the Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, is currently on a nationwide tour to promote small business development in rural communities. During his stop in Rapid City, South Dakota, he expressed concern that small businesses in rural areas are often overlooked and highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between rural and metro regions through intentional investment.
Syed explained that much of his travel is focused on rural parts of the country to ensure that these communities are not left behind. He emphasized the need for equity to prevent further divisions within the country. To address these divides, Syed shared that the federal government is working on legislation like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which aims to provide access to affordable internet for thousands of households and businesses in South Dakota and other rural areas.
Despite these efforts, Syed acknowledged that there is still much work to be done to support businesses facing historic and systemic challenges. Meeting people in rural areas while traveling serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of providing equal opportunities for everyone. Syed stressed the significance of ensuring that all communities have access to the resources needed to thrive. Through efforts like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, he hopes to close gaps and promote economic development in all regions of the country.
