Volkswagen, the renowned German car manufacturer, is set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Golf on Friday. Since its inception in 1974, over 37 million units of this iconic model have been sold worldwide. According to Volkswagen, an average of 2,000 people choose a new Golf every day.
To mark this momentous occasion, a special exhibition will be unveiled in Wolfsburg, Volkswagen’s historical headquarters. The show will highlight the fifty years of the Golf’s existence and feature all eight generations of this beloved car model. The latest addition to the family is the Golf 8, which was presented in 2019 and is now available as a plug-in hybrid with a fully electric range of 100 kilometers. Additionally, it boasts voice control and an artificial intelligence-based conversation partner.
In recent years, the Golf has remained popular in Germany, where it was the best-selling Volkswagen model in 2023, with 81,000 cars sold according to Statista. Furthermore, nearly one-fifth of all cars registered in Germany last year were Golfs as reported by Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA). This milestone anniversary is a testament to the Golf’s enduring appeal and success within the automotive industry.
