As part of National Superhero Day, Children’s Health in Dallas celebrated its annual “Cape Day” event. During the day, patients were encouraged to embrace their own superpowers and wear capes provided by the hospital.
Miguel Solis’s daughter Olivia, who received a heart transplant at just three months old, used her superpower of courage every day. As she went through her treatment and recovery, courage became a defining characteristic of her story. When it came time to choose her superpower for Cape Day, courage was an obvious choice.
Olivia spent the day with some of her favorite superheroes like Batman and Ironman, participating in activities such as cookie decorating and painting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her friend Amelia, who also received treatment at Children’s Health. Together, they embraced their roles as superheroes and celebrated their powers.
Cape Day is all about recognizing the strength and bravery of each child and family treated at Children’s Health Hospital. CBS News reporter Nicole Nielsen joined the news team in June 2020 and is thrilled to work for the station she grew up watching.
