Garden City Elementary School has been recognized for its efforts in promoting mental health and wellness among students and staff. On National Children’s Mental Health Day, school leaders will come together to break down the stigma surrounding discussions about children’s mental health.
During the event, state and local officials will meet with Dr. Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services. The goal is to promote open conversations and provide support for students, families, and caregivers.
In addition to this recognition, Garden City Elementary School recently received a Green Ribbon award from the U.S. Department of Education for their sustainability efforts. The new school includes wellness spaces that promote mental health, which Dr. Delphin-Rittmon will have the opportunity to tour during the event.
The focus on mental health awareness during this event is significant as it coincides with National Mental Health Awareness Month. Rhode Island school leaders are committed to providing resources and intervention opportunities within the community to support the mental well-being of children. This event kicks off at 9:30 a.m., marking a major step towards creating a more supportive environment for children’s mental health in Garden City Elementary School and beyond.
