NCAA Has Approved Technology Rules for 2024

In the upcoming college football season, significant changes will be implemented, as the NCAA has approved new rules that will take effect in 2024. These adjustments are aimed at improving the on-field product and making the game more similar to the NFL.

One of the key changes approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel is the introduction of a green dot on the back of a single player’s helmet on each team. This player will be able to communicate with a coach while on the field, with communication shutting off 15 seconds before the play clock expires. This move brings college football closer to the NFL in terms of in-game communication.

College games will also include a two-minute timeout similar to the NFL’s two-minute warning. The clock will stop at the two-minute mark of the second and fourth quarters, allowing for strategic decisions and game management. Other changes include the use of tablets on the sidelines for reviewing game film and different camera angles.
