Comcast recently announced that they will be offering a monthly credit to Xfinity customers who were affected by the loss of Bally Sports Detroit. The channel became unavailable to Michiganders with Xfinity as of midnight Tuesday into Wednesday due to failed negotiations between Comcast and Diamond Sports Group.
The decision to remove Bally Sports Detroit was made after unsuccessful attempts to reach an agreement with Diamond Sports Group. Comcast had been working with the company during their bankruptcy proceedings, providing extensions to the Bally Sports Regional Networks. Despite efforts to continue carrying their networks, Diamond Sports Group declined multiple offers leading to the loss of programming rights for Comcast.
Comcast expressed their willingness to continue working with Diamond Sports Group but acknowledged that they no longer had the rights to the programming. As a result, they have taken the initiative to credit customers for the costs associated with the loss of Bally Sports Detroit, with most customers automatically receiving monthly credits ranging between $8 and $10.
