The Cowboys have signed running back Royce Freeman to their roster, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer. Despite this addition, the team is still expected to draft a running back next week due to the loss of Tony Pollard. Freeman brings a wealth of experience to the team as he joins Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis, and Snoop Conner on the depth chart.
In his 2018 rookie season with Denver, Freeman had 521 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 130 carries. He went on to play for Carolina in 2019, Houston in 2020, and Los Angeles in 2021. Over the past four seasons, Freeman has recorded 209 carries for 775 yards and two touchdowns along with 29 receptions for 204 yards. Last season alone he rushed for 319 yards and two touchdowns on just 77 carries with the Rams.
This signing marks the second free agent addition by the Cowboys this offseason following linebacker Eric Kendricks joining the team earlier in the offseason. With Freeman’s addition to their depth chart at running back, Dallas is now well-stocked at that position as they prepare for next week’s draft.
