On Labor Day, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni took to social media to celebrate May Day by emphasizing the importance of providing concrete answers to hardworking Italians who contribute to the country’s wealth. Meloni highlighted that the government has achieved excellent results on the labor market front, with over half a million more people employed and records set for female employment and stable contracts.
In a live broadcast, Meloni announced a new decree passed by the Council of Ministers aimed at creating more jobs, especially in the South of Italy. One of the main measures in the package includes a 100% exemption from social security contributions for two years for young people under 35 who have never had permanent contracts, as long as they are hired with stable contracts. This incentive also applies to those over 35 who have been unemployed for at least 2 years.
Meloni emphasized the importance of supporting companies and their workers in creating employment and wealth. According to her, it is not the state that creates employment and prosperity but rather companies and their workers. The role of government, she stated, is to support and enable companies and workers to thrive.
