Sol 1216: Excited for Tasting and Searching

On Sol 1215, the Curiosity rover embarked on a 67-meter journey towards its Namib Dune sampling site. The target location for sampling can be seen clearly in the Navcam image above. The rover’s plan for the day included another drive to reach the designated sampling spot and to prepare for “scuffing” – using a rover wheel to dig a small transect in the sand.

Science activities were also planned for today, with ChemCam and Mastcam observations scheduled to analyze the composition and opacity of the atmosphere. Additionally, a Mastcam observation would be conducted to monitor any movements in the sand. After completing these observations, the rover would drive to a location within 5-6 meters of the intended sampling spot.

Excitement is building among the Curiosity team as they prepare for upcoming sampling and scuffing activities, which are scheduled for tomorrow and Friday. These activities promise to be busy and productive as they continue their exploration on Mars.
