In the past month, armed groups in Gaza Strip have been involved in a series of daring bank robberies that resulted in the theft of approximately 66 million euros. The Bank of Palestine has confirmed this information to French newspaper Le Monde.
One of the incidents took place on April 16th when thieves managed to enter the main bank branch in Gaza City through a hole in the ceiling and made off with safes containing about 2.8 million euros. Just one day later, they returned to the bank and detonated three safes containing around 29 million euros, bringing the total amount stolen to 33.6 million euros within two days.
The robberies have brought to light a significant security concern in the Gaza Strip as armed groups continue to engage in criminal activities such as bank robberies. The Bank of Palestine is now working tirelessly to address the vulnerabilities that allowed these robberies to occur and ensure the safety of their assets and personnel in the future.
