Deloitte has recently acquired Gryphon Scientific, a public health research and consulting company with expertise in artificial intelligence. This move will enhance Deloitte’s ability to collaborate with federal and government agencies on utilizing AI and other data-centric tools to detect and respond to infectious diseases. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Gryphon Scientific, established in 2005, employs a team of scientists, programmers, and policy specialists with experience in data science, scientific communications, modeling, and risk assessment. The company has utilized AI in its research efforts to analyze biological and chemical threats and was a founding member of the U.S. Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute Consortium managed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
According to USASpending.gov data, Gryphon has received approximately $5.5 million in unclassified prime contract obligations in the past 12 months, primarily from the departments of Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, and Defense. With Gryphon now under Deloitte’s umbrella, the public sector team aims to enhance its capacity in developing practical AI solutions in health and establish trust in the technology through its Federal Health AI Accelerator organization.
In addition to enhancing its capacity in developing practical AI solutions for public health initiatives, Deloitte intends to expand its expertise in biosecurity, lab safety, data science, and global and domestic emergency preparedness and response by incorporating the Gryphon team into its operations. This acquisition marks a significant step towards leveraging AI for public health initiatives.
