The European elections are approaching and the finalizing of lists is imminent. Elly Schlein, the general staff of the Democratic Party, has been advocating for her to run as a candidate for this election cycle. There is a need to provide security to candidates who have been waiting for their positions on the lists, as starting position can greatly impact their campaigns.
After a meeting at Nazarene, all members of the Democratic Party secretariat have expressed their support for Elly Schlein’s candidacy in the European elections. Several options have been proposed and she will take time to make her decision before announcing her candidacy officially. In terms of potential candidates, names such as Emanuele Fiano, Giorgio Gori, and Pierfrancesco Maran are expected to run in North West region while Nicola Zingaretti, Dario Nardella, and Camilla Laureti are expected to run in Center constituency. Outside personalities such as Marco Tarquinio and Lucia Annunziata are also being considered for leadership positions in different constituencies.
The Democratic Party’s main focus is on confirming their growth over the past year and building an alternative to current government’s policies. Top priorities include pushing for popular initiative law on minimum wage and addressing health care issues among other ruling class concerns. The party is also concerned about attacks on freedom of information and developments in Hungary and aims to bring together different party sensitivities to combat right-wing movement that they see as detrimental to Europe.
