The Globe offers Youth Mental Health First Aid training

The Cottonwood County Historical Society in Windom will be hosting a training on Youth Mental Health First Aid on April 20, led by facilitators from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The training will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is designed specifically for individuals who work with young people. The program will be offered in Spanish to reach a wider audience.

The goal of the training is to equip attendees with the skills to recognize signs of mental illness, identify signs of substance use disorder, offer support during a mental health crisis, and engage in conversations with family and friends about mental health. This training is intended for adults only and includes a light breakfast served at 7:30 a.m., as well as lunch provided for all participants.

Upon completion of the training, participants will receive a $25 gift card and a certificate of participation. The facilitators leading the training include an outreach project specialist and a Ph.D. student.
