The European Union (EU) has recently committed to imposing sanctions on Iran following the Israeli bombing of the Iranian Consulate in Damascus. This decision was met with praise from Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, who called it an unprecedented achievement for both Israel and the EU. In addition to adopting sanctions related to Iran’s missile project, the EU also plans to declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization.
On Tuesday, EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell announced that the EU will work to expand existing sanctions against Iran’s drone sector. These expanded sanctions would target the supply of Iranian missiles and drones to groups in the region such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen. Borrell also mentioned that these sanctions could be expanded to include Iraq and Syria.
Overall, this commitment by the EU to impose sanctions on Iran marks a significant step towards addressing Iran’s aggressive actions in the region. Israel looks forward to continued cooperation with the EU in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.
