Dubai is currently undergoing a massive expansion of its Al Maktoum International Airport, which aims to build the largest airport in the world. The emirate is investing $35 billion in the project and plans to accommodate 1 million residents in the surrounding area.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, has emphasized that this ambitious project is a key element of Dubai’s future growth and development. He envisions Dubai as a hub for global commerce, transportation, and tourism, with a focus on continuous improvement for future generations.
The construction of the expanded airport will cost AED 128 billion over the next ten years and will feature five parallel runways and 400 aircraft gates. This will consolidate all international flights that currently operate out of Dubai International Airport into one facility. In addition to providing space for planes, the new airport will also serve as a focal point for housing needs in the region, with plans to accommodate 1 million residents.
The expansion plans coincide with the recovery of air travel in Dubai to pre-pandemic levels, with an expected 17.15 million international visitors in 2023. The new airport will provide even more opportunities for business travelers and tourists alike to experience all that Dubai has to offer.
