On April 26, Klager Elementary School hosted a successful Around the World with Math and Science Night. Coordinated by a passionate team of volunteers from both Klager and high school, the event provided families with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning opportunities in the school’s cafeteria. Children had the chance to explore various aspects of learning from different cultures around the world.
The event was filled with interactive and engaging activities that allowed children to learn about the science of growing food in the Arctic, the discovery of popcorn in Peru, and the invention of sorbet in China. They also engaged with technology through robotics demonstrations by the Klager K-12 robotics teams. In addition, children practiced their engineering skills with K’Nex, an invention from the United States. Families were treated to an art show and children had the opportunity to create notebooks, a product originally from Australia, as a make-and-take activity.
Children also got to apply their math skills through a game challenge called Mancala, which was created in Africa. Title 1 representatives were on hand to promote reading local Michigan authors and products, and MI Future Funds provided information on college planning and savings. At the end of the night, children had the chance to vote for their favorite station, with the Robotics Teams being named the winner.
Overall, families of all ages had a great time at the event. It was a wonderful opportunity for children to explore different cultures and learn about the various aspects of STEAM education.
