FIFA Strikes Gold: $1.5 Billion Sponsorship Deal with Saudi Arabia’s Aramco Announced for 2026 Men’s World Cup and 2027 Women’s World Cup

FIFA has announced a sponsorship deal with Saudi Arabia’s state oil company Aramco, worth an estimated $1.5 billion annually. The agreement extends through 2027 and includes major FIFA tournaments such as the 2026 men’s World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as well as the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

The partnership was widely anticipated following Saudi Arabia’s selection as the host for the 2034 men’s World Cup in October. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is believed to be one of FIFA’s most lucrative agreements to date. It may also include sponsorship of the upcoming 32-team Club World Cup scheduled for next year in the United States.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has developed a close relationship with Saudi Arabia and its Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman since before the 2018 World Cup. The bidding process for the 2034 hosting rights was tailored in a way that appeared to favor Saudi Arabia, with only federations from Asia and Oceania allowed to participate. By October, Saudi Arabia had emerged as the sole candidate for hosting rights.

In addition to its role in sponsoring FIFA events, Saudi Arabia has also been involved in promoting sports tourism through its Visit Saudi campaign. This campaign has focused on highlighting the kingdom’s rich cultural heritage and modern facilities for sports enthusiasts. However, there have been some controversy surrounding Saudi Arabia’s involvement in sports tourism due to concerns about human rights abuses and political repression within the country.
