FIFA’s Top Contenders for Women’s World Cup Hosting in 2027

The FIFA World Cup of 2027 will be hosted by either Brazil or the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany as per a report released by FIFA. The bids were evaluated based on various criteria such as infrastructure, facilities, and logistics.

FIFA’s technical evaluation committee rated Brazil’s bid at 4.0 out of 5 while the joint bid from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany received a score of 3.7. Both bids exceeded the minimum hosting requirements set forth by FIFA.

However, there were other bids that did not meet the minimum hosting standards. The United States and Mexico withdrew their joint bid for the tournament last week, citing a focus on hosting the 2031 tournament instead. South Africa also shifted its sights toward the 2031 event after initially bidding for 2027.

Brazil has previously hosted two men’s World Cup tournaments in 1950 and 2014 but has never hosted a Women’s World Cup. Germany previously hosted the Women’s World Cup in 2011. The most recent Women’s World Cup was jointly held by Australia and New Zealand in 2023 marking the first time two nations co-hosted the event.

The FIFA Congress is set to vote on these bids on May 17th in Bangkok, marking the first time that a formal vote will determine who hosts this prestigious tournament.
