In the Louisville area, several female athletes showcased their talent on softball fields and lacrosse courts this week. As a result, they have been nominated for the Courier Journal girls athlete of the week award. Voting for the award is currently open and will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, with the winner being announced on Friday.
Among the nominees is Manual senior Cameron Breier, who had an outstanding performance in lacrosse, scoring eight goals and having six assists in a game against Mercy. Portland Christian sophomore Ava Gish also received a nomination for her impressive softball skills, with seven hits and five RBIs in games against Beth Haven, Presentation, and Christian Educational Consortium.
Collegiate senior Bridgette Haraden also earned a nod for her impressive performance in lacrosse, scoring six goals and one assist against Cooper. Maya Merrill from Mercy was recognized for her pitching skills, striking out 31 batters in games against Fern Creek, Atherton, Boyle County, and earning a save against Fern Creek. Assumption junior Lauren Satterly is also up for the award after recording six hits, including two home runs, six RBIs, and two stolen bases in softball games against Eastern, Male, and Jeffersonville.
