In the aftermath of a tragic shooting in Salina, which claimed the lives of Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen and Onondaga County Sheriff Lt. Michael Hosock, as well as the shooter, Christopher R. Murphy, the community is coming together to support the families of the fallen officers. One such initiative is a fundraiser led by Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who has raised $600,000 for the Hosock family.
Portnoy’s generosity is just one of many ways that the community is coming together to support the families of these brave officers during this difficult time. Despite his criticisms of certain aspects of the city in the past, Portnoy’s actions demonstrate a deep care and concern for the well-being of its residents. His visit to Syracuse for a Barstool competition was marked by his love for local bars and his candid opinions about Northern Lights Plaza in Mattydale, which he deemed “disgusting.” However, despite these criticisms, Portnoy has continued to support the community in times of need.
The fundraising efforts are just one way that Portnoy is demonstrating his support for Syracuse and its residents during this difficult time. His contributions serve as a reminder that even in times of tragedy, solidarity and support can be powerful tools for healing and recovery.
