A man from Atlanta, Georgia, has been charged with multiple felonies for allegedly defrauding a business in Boone County on January 30. Cordary McFarland is accused of six counts of forgery and three counts of stealing. Despite the charges, McFarland is not currently in custody and a $100,000 bond has been set for his arrest.
According to a bond memo, McFarland is believed to be in Springfield, Missouri, after authorities were able to track his phone and rental car from Indianapolis, Indiana. The memo states that McFarland has been traveling around the country with the intention of passing forged documents to banks and financial institutions in order to steal money. It also claims that he has access to rental cars and airline flights through associates in Georgia, which he uses as part of his criminal activities.
An employee of the business in Boone County reported three fraudulent transactions involving forged checks totaling $1,810.17, $2,852.17 and $2,587.18 on January 30th according to the probable cause statement while heavily redacted.
