The upcoming Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is a global competition that celebrates the iconic games of the classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). On July 18, players from all around the world will have the opportunity to test their skills in an online format and qualify for the World Championship.

The event pays homage to the in-person Nintendo World Championships that were held in 1990, 2015, and 2017. This new digital-only edition of the competition will take place on July 18th, giving players a chance to compete in over 150 small challenges from 13 classic NES games. Players are encouraged to practice by breaking their own records in single-player mode (Speedrun) before moving on to compete locally in Party mode.

Subscription to Nintendo Switch Online will grant access to the World Championship mode, where players can compete in five rotating challenges each week to try and secure a place on the global leaderboard. The challenges will be based on classic NES games such as Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Kirby’s Adventure, Metroid, Super Mario Bros., and others.

On July 18th, a Deluxe edition of Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition will be available, featuring a physical version of the title, collectible pins, illustrated cards, and a replica of the golden NES ‘game pak’. This event promises to be an exciting and nostalgic event for fans of classic Nintendo games to showcase their skills and compete on a global level.
