Brandon Johnson of Jamico Construction had recently sold his property to Victoria Fluhart and her husband, Justin, who were eager to start an equine therapy business. The couple was thrilled to be in the Waterloo area and were just days away from hosting an open house for their new venture when a tornado hit.
Victoria’s first priority during the storm was to save the horses on the property. Despite the danger, she bravely rescued several horses while also suffering injuries herself. Unfortunately, her beloved mare Onyx did not survive the storm. Onyx had been with Victoria for 18 years and was more than just a horse to her – she was a partner, therapist, and friend.
Despite their grief over losing Onyx, Victoria and Justin are determined to continue pursuing their dream of offering equine therapy services in the community. With the help of the community, they are rebuilding their business and hope to host their open house this summer thanks to donations from those who have supported them throughout this difficult time.
Victoria expressed her gratitude for the support she has received during the cleanup process and sees this as an opportunity to start anew. While she knows that the road ahead may not be easy, she is determined to honor Onyx’s memory by fulfilling their shared dream of providing equine therapy services to those in need.
