In 2024, a study on the use and consumption of technology in Spain revealed that a significant portion of the population keeps obsolete electronic devices at home. About 85 percent of Spaniards hold onto at least one device that they no longer use, such as smartphones, multimedia players, or computer accessories.

The most popular relic among Spaniards is the old mobile phone, with 67 percent admitting to keeping one at home even though they use a newer model. Other commonly stored devices include media players, computers and accessories, and video game consoles or virtual reality headsets.

While many people are hesitant to part with their outdated devices due to caution for potential future use, nostalgia, or simply forgetting about them, some individuals are open to the idea of getting rid of these devices to gain economic benefits from selling them, free up space at home, or ensure they will never use them again.

Grover’s technology rental service conducted the study and found that almost three-quarters of the population stores multiple outdated technological products. Smartphones were the most common among them. Despite the inclination to hold onto these devices, many people are considering parting ways with them for various reasons.

In conclusion, it appears that while many Spaniards keep outdated electronic devices at home for sentimental reasons or because they fear they may need them in the future, there is also a growing trend towards decluttering and getting rid of these items. As technology continues to evolve rapidly, it will be interesting to see how these habits change in the years to come.
