Improving Access to Healthcare in Conflict-Affected Areas: Challenges and Strategies in Eastern DRC

A new study has been released examining the impact of violence on healthcare services in Eastern DRC. The research sheds light on the challenges faced by healthcare providers in conflict-affected areas and highlights the need for improved security risk management to ensure access to care.

During the Insecurity Insight session at HNPW 2024, a panel discussion will be held on guaranteeing access to healthcare through community support and better security risk management for hospitals in the DRC. The session will explore the results of an operational approach to risk analysis and the impact assessment of attacks on the health system. This event, scheduled for 3 May from 15:00-16:30 CET, will be conducted in French with English translation provided. Registration is required to attend.

Another session at the event will focus on security planning and security risk management, addressing current challenges and strategies to help organizations and healthcare providers adapt to changing situations. The session will take place on 6 May 2024 from 14:00-15:30 CET, with options for both virtual and in-person attendance at CICG Geneva Plenary B. Registration is required to participate.

A discussion on how security analysis optimizes humanitarian operations by facilitating aid delivery will also be held during HNPW 2024. This session will involve input from security analysts, emergency practitioners, and other stakeholders in the humanitarian and health community. The session is scheduled for 3 May 2024 from 14:00-15:30 CET and will be conducted virtually. Registration is open to those interested in participating.
