Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani led a meeting on Saturday to discuss the impact of the recent rain wave. In attendance were representatives from various ministries, including the Ministers of Interior and Trade, the Mayor of Baghdad, the General Coordinator for Governorate Affairs, the Deputy Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The media office of al-Sudani released a statement detailing how he was briefed on the extensive effects of the recent rains, particularly on service levels and agricultural lands. The purpose of the meeting was to fully understand and assess the damage caused by the rain wave and work towards containing and addressing it effectively.
During his address at the meeting, al-Sudani highlighted several challenges faced by Iraq due to coinciding rainfall with ongoing harvesting operations and service projects. He discussed in detail various aspects related to agriculture such as harvesting, marketing and grain storage operations as well as water levels in dams. Additionally, he emphasized measures taken to maximize water storage and utilization.
The Iraqi Minister of Interior presented a report outlining actions taken by their National Center for Crisis and Disaster Management in response to recent rains. Al-Sudani directed continued efforts towards mobilizing service and relief assistance for those affected by flood waves while stressing that intensified efforts are needed to market grains under current weather conditions in Iraq.
