Legacy Health CEO Kathryn Correia Announces Retirement as OHSU Acquisition Is Imminent

Legacy Health’s chief executive, Kathryn Correia, is retiring after serving four years in the position. This marks a change in leadership as the hospital system prepares for a merger with Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. George Brown, who previously served as Legacy’s CEO from 2008 to 2018, will return to the position on an interim basis.

In a statement from Legacy, it was announced that Anna Loomis, the hospital’s chief financial officer, is also leaving her position. Charles Wilhoite, chair of Legacy’s board of directors, praised Anna’s critical role in steering Legacy towards financial strength and helping them achieve their objectives despite economic challenges.

Correia will continue to advise the hospital system until June when she officially steps down. In an email to staff, Correia explained that she is retiring for health reasons following an injury sustained in a fall last November. She acknowledged that the accumulated stress of the past four years had impacted her resiliency and led to a longer recovery period than expected. This realization prompted her decision to retire and focus on her well-being.

Legacy Health System has been preparing for its merger with Oregon Health & Science University for some time now. The merger is expected to be completed by January 1st next year.

The change in leadership at Legacy Health System comes at a crucial juncture as they prepare for this significant merger. With Dr. George Brown returning as CEO on an interim basis and Anna Loomis stepping down as CFO, it is clear that this transition will require careful planning and execution to ensure a smooth transition for patients and staff alike.

The retirement of Kathryn Correia marks the end of an era at Legacy Health System. Her leadership has been instrumental in steering the hospital towards financial strength and preparing them for their upcoming merger with Oregon Health & Science University.

Overall, this change in leadership signifies an exciting new chapter for Legacy Health System as they embark on this journey towards becoming one of Oregon’s largest healthcare providers through their merger with Oregon Health & Science University.
