5 key players in LA have received a $1.4 billion investment.

The Los Angeles Dodgers recently announced a $140 million, 10-year contract with catcher Will Smith. This latest signing brings their spending on key players to nearly $1.4 billion since December. This new deal supersedes a one-year, $8.85 million agreement that was previously reached in January.

At 28 years old, Smith had a standout season last year, earning his first All-Star berth and hitting .261 with 19 homers and 76 RBIs. In his six seasons with the Dodgers, he has a .263 average with 91 homers and 308 RBIs. With this latest contract extension, Smith will be locked in with the team until after the 2025 season.

With this signing, the Dodgers now have a total commitment of $1,365,687,500 to five key players. This includes two-way star Shohei Ohtani ($700 million for 10 years), right-handers Yoshinobu Yamamoto ($325 million for 12 years) and Tyler Glasnow ($136,562,500 for five years), outfielder Teoscar Hernández ($23.5 million for one year), and now Will Smith as well.
