The Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and Austin, along with five other Mayo Clinic Health System hospitals, have recently earned top marks for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group. This independent national nonprofit organization provides safety ratings to help patients make informed decisions about their healthcare choices. The A grades earned by these hospitals demonstrate their dedication to fostering a strong culture of safety to ensure exceptional outcomes for patients.
Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Quality chair of Mayo Clinic Health System, emphasizes the importance of prioritizing patient well-being and delivering safe care to everyone who comes through their doors. “Safety is at the forefront of everything we do,” he says. “We’re committed to ensuring that our patients receive the best possible care, no matter where they are or what their needs are.”
The hospitals that earned A grades include locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and other areas served by Mayo Clinic Health System. The Hospital Safety Score, updated twice a year by The Leapfrog Group, is based on 15 measures of publicly available hospital safety data and 12 self-reported survey answers. This score allows patients to compare hospitals based on factors such as staffing levels, infection rates, and medication errors.
President of Mayo Clinic Health System, Dr. Prathibha Varkey, acknowledges the commitment of the team to provide safe and compassionate care to the communities they serve. “Our physicians, nurses, and staff members are dedicated to delivering quality care close to home,” she says. “We’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far and look forward to continuing our work in improving patient safety.”
