This weekend, the Eagles made significant moves to strengthen their offensive line by drafting two new linemen and also signing former Jets tackle Mekhi Becton to a one-year contract. Becton’s agents, Alan Herman and Jared Fox, announced that the deal is worth up to $5.5 million for the 2020 first-round pick.
In Philadelphia, Becton will join Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata as part of the team’s tackle rotation. As a promising rookie with the Jets, Becton’s playing time was limited in the following two seasons due to knee injuries. However, he started 16 games in the 2023 season before the Jets decided not to pick up his 2025 option or re-sign him.
Becton is expected to take on a swing tackle role once he passes his physical and officially signs with the Eagles in the NFC East. With his addition to the lineup, the Eagles hope to improve their offensive performance and compete for playoff contention in 2024.
