Mikael Jasin of Indonesia has been crowned the 2024 World Barista Championship, marking his victory over 53 competitors from across the globe. He is the first Indonesian to hold this title and follows in the footsteps of Boram Um from Brazil, who won in 2020.

Jasin’s routine was centered around meditation and mindfulness, making him stand out from other competitors. The championship took place at the World of Coffee Asia in Busan, South Korea. In 2025, Indonesia will host the event in Jakarta.

For his winning routine, Jasin used an Ethiopian landrace variety called Ají from Colombia and a Gesha-variety coffee from Panama. The rankings for the final day were as follows: Mikael Jasin of Indonesia in first place, Jack Simpson from Australia in second, Takayuki Ishitani from Japan in third, Honoka Kawashima from Aotearoa/New Zealand in fourth, Junghwan Lim from South Korea in fifth, Ian Kissick from Ireland in sixth, and Zjevaun Lemar Janga from The Netherlands in seventh.
