The World Triathlon Championship Series and Mixed Relay Series Montreal events, originally scheduled to take place on 14-15 September 2024, have been canceled. This news is a significant blow to the athletes who had been looking forward to competing in these events. However, there is some good news as the World Triathlon Para Series Montreal, set for 29 June, will still proceed as planned.
In response to the cancellation of the Montreal events, the World Triathlon Cup Wehai, previously scheduled for 27 September, has been upgraded to a WTCS event. This event will now serve as the fifth stop in the 2024 Series thanks to the China Triathlon Sports Association stepping up as hosts. The China Triathlon Sports Association’s commitment to hosting this event shows their dedication to triathlons and their desire to promote it globally.
Due to last-minute cancellations at other events, including WTCS Abu Dhabi in March 2024, the ranking points for the 2024 World Triathlon Championship Series will be awarded at only four remaining Series events: WTCS Yokohama, WTCS Cagliari, WTCS Hamburg and WTCS Weihai. Points will also be granted at Continental Championships and Paris 2024 Olympic Games and Championship Finals Torremolinos-Andalucia. The athletes with the highest points accumulated from three of these six events plus Championship Finals will be crowned the 2024 World Triathlon Champions.
