Students at Tyner Academy were given the chance to showcase their machine learning creations on Tuesday as part of the six-week-long World Quantum Day observance. Twelve students from EPB’s Future Ready Institute of Technology and Networking at Tyner Academy presented their “Friendship Detectors,” which were built using machine learning technology.
EPB’s J. Ed Marston, who has been a sponsor and participant in the curriculum at Tyner Academy, emphasized the importance of nurturing both young and older individuals with the necessary technology skills for future job opportunities in the quantum industry. He highlighted that by providing educational opportunities like this showcase, students can apply their knowledge of machine learning and other tech-related skills in real-world scenarios, helping them prepare for future job opportunities in an ever-evolving technology industry.
Marston also expressed that EPB’s main goal is to bridge the connection between Chattanooga’s development of new technology that can contribute to economically viable jobs and ensuring there is a skilled workforce available to take on these jobs. The focus is on developing essential technology skills that will prepare students for jobs in the quantum industry. With hands-on experiences like this one, students are able to see how their knowledge applies in practical settings, giving them a competitive edge as they enter the workforce.
